• Steering Team comprised of 4 – 7 individuals. Ideally, the steering team will reflect the diverse interests of the coalition and will include at least one member from each of the following areas: housing, transportation, and the environment.
  • The Steering Team will meet periodically when convened by a coalition member. The team will scrutinize issues. If two or more coalition members are interested in working on an issue all coalition members will be given the opportunity to participate. Participation in any particular issue, however, is voluntary.
  • Once a group of of coalition members have come together around a specific issue, those coalition members will meet to develop a support strategy that leverages the network of each participating organization to lobby, publish letters and articles, organize community meetings, etc.
  • This structure envisions Livable Newton as a fluid community organizer.  The Steering Team meets only a few times a year while coalition groups meet regularly in pursuit of their issues.  Livable Newton individual and organizational members can move in and out of the issue coalitions as they see fit.
  • Part of the mission of the Livable Newton coalition is to expand the participating organizations and individuals and to link to similar groups in other communities and statewide advocacy groups. The Steering Team will include this as part of their agenda.
  • The entire Livable Newton coalition will, when possible, meet annually to break bread, celebrate our accomplishments, discuss priorities for the coming year, and elect a Steering Team.
